You Can Now Get Overcast on Apple Watch, Besting Cupertino

Overcast is one of the best third-party podcast apps on the App Store. Thanks to its latest update, it just got even better. With Overcast 3.1, you can send individual podcasts to the Apple Watch for offline listening. To date, Apple’s Podcasts app still doesn’t do this, although you can send a playlist of audio files from the Music app. In other words, this is a big deal if you would like listening to podcast while on a walk or run and rather not carry around your phone. To listen to offline podcasts on your Apple Watch using Overcast, you’ll...

There’s Now a Red iPhone 7, Budget iPad and New Apple Watch Bands

There’s now a red iPhone 7! It’s been a busy day for Apple. The company used press releases to announce a few new products for spring. This includes what is arguably the company’s first 9.7-inch tablet for the budget-conscious, the simply named iPad. Also unveiled: a (PRODUCT) RED special edition iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus. Cupertino also revealed new Apple Watch bands in the Hermès, Sport, Woven Nylon, and Classic Buckle lineup. I briefly mentioned Apple’s new products in an AppAdvice post. In a follow-up, I expressed my thoughts on what today’s announcements mean for the rest of the 2017 iPad...

Nanoleaf Aurora: Cutting Edge or a Waste of Money?

After a few days delay due to the winter storm in the Northeast, I received my Nanoleaf Aurora. I plan on spending some time with it over the coming days and include it an April post at MakeUseOf on new smart lighting choices for the home. My initial thoughts: Easy setup, a less-than-steller, and goofy app, but overall a great new product. I can’t wait for my 10-year-old to see this after school. She’ll probably love the amazing color choices and scenes, especially at bedtime. From the Nanoleaf website: Meet the perfect fusion of lighting design and technology—a smart lighting...

Is the China UMIDIGI Z Pro a Worthy Apple iPhone Competitor?

Yes, I’m going to review the Chinese-labeled UMIDIGI Z Pro. Chinese-labeled smartphones are starting to take off, not just in China, but elsewhere too. After Apple and Samsung, Chinese-based Huawei and Oppo were the No. 3 and No. 4 smartphone makers during the fourth quarter of 2016. I want to learn more about these Chinese-labeled handsets. Later this week, I’m receiving an UMIDIGI Z Pro for a review at AppAdvice. We don’t usually cover phones not named iPhone, so this will be a first. The UMIDIGI Z Pro has lots of interesting features going for it, which makes it an excellent choice for...

Something New, Everything in One Place

What is the Tech Media Minute? I’ve been writing about technology for a long time as a freelancer at AppAdvice, MakeUseOf, and other publications. For 15 years before, I worked on hardware and software development in various industries, including manufacturing, healthcare, and education. I’d now like to use this experience to create something new on the internet. The Tech Media Minute will initially serve as a place where I can comment further on articles I’ve written elsewhere. In time, I expect to put new content here too and maybe bring on some contributors. Come back often and see what develops. I can’t...
